Head to Yarra Valley in Melbourne to visit Healesville Sanctuary. Watch entertaining animal performances and learn about more than 200 native Australian animals!

Animals and habitats

Main Track: On the Main Track, a huge variety of reptiles and amphibians can be seen in their natural habitats. See majestic birds of prey and magnificent parrots on full display at our world-renowned flight area; besides kangaroos, koalas, emus and more! Share in Healesville Sanctuary’s sites of Aboriginal cultural significance on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation.

Woodlands Track: The captivating Australian bushland of Healesville’s Woodland Track is home to an array of forest animals. This native ecosystem is alive with birds and mammals, from kookaburras to wombats and wallabies. Take a breath, listen to the bird calls, spot a joey, and savour the sanctuary’s tranquil surrounds.

Dingo Country: Prance with a pack of one of Australia’s most iconic animals – the Dingo. In our high country exhibit, you can see this threatened species close up, and learn about its complex history.

Wetlands Track: Do you hear that? It’s the call of native water birds and frogs along our Wetlands Track. Wander through this water paradise and learn about some of Australia’s most fascinating animals. Did you know that black swans originated in the Southern Hemisphere? Learn about these creatures and more as you follow the trail.

Kangaroo Country: Meet our mob of happy hoppers at Kangaroo Country. Get up close and learn about this fascinating species. Our daily Kangaroo Keeper Talk will also teach you unique 'roo' facts at 11:30am. Little bouncers will love this exhibit, as they can explore wombat burrows, follow the journey of a joey, take a photo in the pouch of a giant kangaroo and more.

Koala Forest: Take a journey along the boardwalk and into the Manna Gum treetops to spy one of Australia’s most famous animals – the koala! Don’t miss the daily Koala Keeper Talk, where you’ll learn about these cute creatures and how you can protect their forest habitats. The echidnas also call this exhibit home, so look out for movement below!

World of the Platypus: World of the Platypus introduces you to our delightful platypus friends at Healesville Sanctuary. Visit these foragers in their riverside environment and see that they're not as shy as you'd think!

VIP SANCTUARY TOUR

Wander through the stunning bushland setting with an expert ranger in this small group experience, who will share stories of our unique wildlife, get up close with a koala and kangaroo and enjoy VIP seating at the Spirits of the Sky bird show.

  • Capacity: Min 2pax Max 6pax Opportunity for three groups to run concurrently.
  • Minimum age: 5yrs old; children under 15yrs old must be accompanied by a full paying adult (1:1 ratio).

KOALA CLOSE-UP

Learn some remarkable facts about Australia's favourite tree-huggers and see why they've captured the nation's hearts. Perfect for individuals, couples or families, these unforgettable small group experiences will allow you exclusive up-close access.

KANGAROO CLOSE-UP

Discover interesting facts about our kangaroo mob as rangers guide you through the exhibit. Get up close and personal with these amazing animals.

DINGO CLOSE-UP

Meet the keepers and learn something new about your favourite animals! Our Dingoes will make you laugh as they show off their boisterous personalities. Perfect for individuals, couples or families, these unforgettable small group experiences will allow you exclusive upclose access.

  • Departs: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday – time TBC upon booking.

Healesville Sanctuary is just a one hour drive from Melbourne CBD through the stunning Yarra Valley wine region!

Travelling by public transport

First, catch a train to Lilydale station. Buses will then take you to Healesville Sanctuary.

Train to Lilydale

Catch a train from the Melbourne city centre to Lilydale, travelling on the Lilydale line.

Bus to Healesville

From Lilydale station, you need to catch bus 685 to Healesville. Then a connecting bus (686 towards Badger Creek) will take you to Healesville Sanctuary.

Travelling by car

From Melbourne CBD

Healesville Sanctuary is located on Badger Creek Road, Healesville

Take the Eastern Freeway out of Melbourne, then drive east along Maroondah Highway through Ringwood and Lilydale to Healesville. Turn right into Badger Creek Road, just past the township centre. From there, road signs will guide you to Healesville Sanctuary.

From Melbourne Aiport (Tullamarine)

Take the Tullamarine Freeway (M2) and then take the first major exit on your left — the M80/Western Ring Road (Hume Freeway/Greensborough direction). Continue on the Ring Road to Greensborough and take the left exit onto the Greensborough Highway. Take the exit for Kangaroo Ground-Wattle Glen Road. Continue to the end, turn right and take the first left into Eltham-Yarra Glen Road. From there, follow road signs to Healesville Sanctuary.

  • All per person prices quoted are in Australian dollars and valid from 1st April 2023 to 31st March 2024.
  • Admission is free for children aged 16 and under on Saturdays, Sundays, Victoria public holidays, and Australian school vacations. Each child must be accompanied by a paying adult aged 18 and over; please indicate the number of eligible children in the Requests & Remarks section when booking
