Step into a magical winter wonderland at Sovereign Hill’s Winter Wonderlights. As night falls, the historic gold rush streets come alive with dazzling light projections, glowing laneways, faux snowfall, and festive music. Wander through illuminated streets, enjoy seasonal treats, and soak in the festive atmosphere. By day, explore the living museum, pan for gold, and meet costumed characters. As an added highlight, the Gold Rush Town MV by Jay Chou was filmed here, offering a familiar and recognisable setting for many visitors

  • Tuesday to Sunday: 10:00am – 5:00pm
  • Open daily during Victorian school holidays
  • Closed on Christmas Day (25 December)

You can travel from Melbourne to Ballarat by V/Line train, then transfer to a local bus.

  • Take a V/Line train from Southern Cross Station (Melbourne) to Ballarat Station.
  • The V/Line journey takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.
  • After arriving at Ballarat Station, take Route 21 bus towards Buninyong.
  • Get off at Sovereign Hill/Main Rd or Bradshaw St/Magpie St and walk approximately 2 minutes to the entrance.
  • The bus journey takes around 10–15 minutes, with services generally operating once per hour during the day.

Alternative (Fastest Option)

  • Take a taxi or Uber directly from Ballarat Station after Vline.
  • Travel time is approximately 3–5 minutes to Sovereign Hill.
