Walk to the Wineglass Bay lookout to see one of the world's Top 10 Beaches! Then continue onwards to take on the 1000 steps as your hike takes you down to the white sands of Wineglass Bay beach.

Wineglass Bay is nestled in the Freycinet National Park on the East Coast of Tasmania. One of Tasmania’s first National Parks this is a coastal area rich in stunning landscapes. Pink granite mountains form the backdrop for secluded bays, pristine waters, white sandy beaches, local wildlife and walking trails.

Freycinet National Park is a hiker’s delight, offering a network of trails ranging from 10 minutes to 10 days in length. The premier walk is to the iconic Wineglass Bay Lookout and onward to Wineglass Bay Beach—one of Tasmania’s most celebrated destinations.

The journey begins with a drive east from Hobart, following the scenic coastline through the seaside towns of Orford and Swansea. Travelling north toward Freycinet National Park, enjoy glimpses of Tasmania’s beautiful eastern shores. As one of the state’s first National Parks, Freycinet is renowned for its rich and dramatic coastal landscapes. Pink granite mountains set the backdrop for secluded bays, white sandy beaches, pristine waters, and abundant local wildlife.

Upon arrival, the adventure kicks off with the walk to Wineglass Bay Lookout. Walk with the Tour Guide at a relaxed pace and enjoy informative commentary along the way—or head off independently and immerse yourself in the experience. The uphill section to the lookout takes around 45 minutes and rewards walkers with breathtaking views across the bay. From here, a fairly steep descent leads down to the beach, where you can wander barefoot along the soft white sand.

The return walk, including the lookout and beach trail, covers about 6 km and typically takes 2 to 2.5 hours. With approximately 3 to 3.5 hours allocated for the activity, there’s ample time to complete the main walk and enjoy the beach. A 20-minute stroll to the southern end of the beach provides stunning views of The Hazards mountains. Alternatively, relax with lunch, unwind on the shore, or—on warmer days—take a dip in the clear blue waters.

The journey back involves a steep climb to the lookout and a descent to the trailhead, where the Tour Guide will be waiting.

After around four hours in Freycinet National Park, the group regathers for the return trip to Hobart. The final stop along the East Coast is the beautiful Devil’s Corner Winery. Here, take in panoramic views and, if you wish, enjoy wine tastings, wood-fired pizzas, fresh seafood and oysters from Freycinet Marine Farm, or a locally made ice cream—all available at your own expense.

Arrival back at Hobart City accommodation is scheduled for around 6:00 pm.
