Things to Note

Pricing and Booking:

All prices are in Australian Dollars (AUD) per person. Book 6 months ahead for potential Advance Purchase savings.

During peak periods (seasons, weekends, student holidays), tour and train accommodation availability is limited and may sell out. If your initial choice is unavailable, alternatives or upgrades with price adjustments (refunds or surcharges) may be offered. We reserve the right to adjust train accommodation prices before tickets are issued based on demand and time of year. If the price increases, you can accept it or receive a full refund. Once tickets are issued, itinerary changes are not allowed.

Your booking is confirmed and a contract is formed when you:

  • Make a booking and provide all necessary information.
  • Pay the full amount due at the time of booking as per these conditions.
  • Receive a Booking Confirmation from us.

Our services begin upon booking confirmation, including pre-travel arrangements.

Cancellations and Amendments:

If we cancel your journey for reasons other than Force Majeure, you can choose a full refund, a comparable alternative journey (if available), or a Credit Note. If The Overland journey is cancelled due to government funding ceasing, you will receive a full refund.

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for other costs you may incur due to cancellations (e.g., flights not included, insurance, visas).

Due to the nature of travel, we may occasionally need to make minor changes to your itinerary and inclusions (including Off-Train Excursions), and you agree to this. If significant changes occur that substantially reduce the overall quality or value of your journey (and we decide it can still operate), we will notify you within a reasonable time. You can then choose to:

  • Continue with the journey and receive a partial refund for the reduced value (as reasonably determined by us).
  • Cancel your journey for a full refund of the Journey Price paid.

Travel Insurance, Health, and Dietary Requirements:

We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance to cover cancellations, medical expenses, medical evacuation, luggage, and other potential costs. You choose your insurer, but we suggest buying insurance when you pay your deposit, as cancellation fees may apply from that point.

It is your responsibility to ensure you are healthy and fit enough to undertake the journey. For most Rail Journeys (except under specific circumstances for The Overland), you must complete our Fitness to Travel Form (available at https://www.journeybeyondrail.com.au/terms-conditions/) within a reasonable time after booking and before travel. Failure to do so may lead to your booking being cancelled or you being refused boarding without a refund.

Please inform us of any special dietary requirements within 7 days of receiving your Booking Confirmation.

Check-in, Smoking, and Unused Services:

Please check in with our representative at the location stated on your Final Travel Documents within these timeframes before your scheduled departure:

  • The Ghan, Indian Pacific, and Great Southern: Between 2.5 and 1 hour prior.
  • The Overland: Between 1 hour and 30 minutes prior.

You will need to show valid photo identification at check-in.

All Journey Beyond Rail trains are entirely smoke-free (including e-cigarettes) in accordance with relevant state regulations.

No refunds will be given for any unused services, whether by your choice or due to late arrival or early departure. This includes issues with commercial transport schedules, for which we are not responsible, unless your late arrival or early departure was due to our negligence.

Photography and Recordings:

We and our suppliers may take photos or videos of you and your activities during the Journey for promotional and marketing purposes. By participating, you consent to this use without any payment or compensation. If you do not wish for your image or likeness to be used, please notify us at least 21 days before your journey begins.
