Spectacular Murchison River Gorges & Cliffs

This is a must-do experience. Seeing the landscape from the air reveals far more than is possible from the ground, offering a dramatic perspective and a true sense of the immense scale of Hutt Lagoon (Pink Lake) and the Kalbarri Gorges.

Unless visitors are extremely fit and prepared for long, challenging walks, it is difficult to fully appreciate the gorges from ground level. The lookouts cover only a small portion of the area and miss many of the region’s most striking highlights.

After take-off, the flight heads north along the coastline towards Hutt Lagoon Pink Lake, approaching from the south where the vivid pink waters are separated from the dark blue ocean by a narrow strip of land. After completing an overflight of the lake, the journey continues north along the dramatic Kalbarri coastal cliffs until reaching Kalbarri at the mouth of the Murchison River.

From there, the flight follows the river inland through the rugged and breathtaking Kalbarri National Park, tracing the full length of the Murchison River Gorges to Ross Graham Lookout.

Over millions of years, the river has carved through sandstone, revealing steep rock faces layered with striking white, red and purple hues. Many of these natural wonders are inaccessible and can only truly be appreciated from the air.

The flight continues over the Loop, offering a completely different perspective, before passing Hawkes Head, Little Z Bend, Big Z Bend and the Four Ways—an intriguing formation where the river changes direction and is joined by deep cuts from both sides. The journey then heads south inland towards Geraldton.

This flight is an absolute must for anyone wishing to fully appreciate the dramatic splendour and vast scale of the Murchison River Gorges.
