• You will depart Hobart around 7-7:30 am. The tour lasts for 11 hours until 6 pm. The tour usually operates on Weekdays, but from the 1st of Dec to the 31st of Jan, it also operates on Saturdays.

The UNESCO World Heritage-listed Port Arthur Historic Site, located 90 minutes’ drive from Hobart, is Australia’s most intact and evocative convict site. With more than 30 historic buildings and ruins across the 100 acres of grounds, Port Arthur brings Australia's early convict history to life.

The day begins with an early departure from Hobart, heading straight to the stunning Tasman Peninsula—an area renowned for its rich history, dramatic stories, and breathtaking natural beauty. This region is also home to Australia’s highest sea cliffs. A stop at Pirates Bay Lookout offers panoramic views over the surrounding coastline, providing the perfect introduction to the peninsula’s striking landscape.

Continuing through Eaglehawk Neck and the historic Dog Line, guides share fascinating insights into the area's convict past. The journey then leads to one of Tasmania’s celebrated Great Short Walks—a scenic 2 km cliff-top track along Waterfall Bay. This walk takes approximately 45–60 minutes and is considered easy, with some gentle undulation. The trail ends at two of the area’s most impressive rock formations: Tasman Arch and Devil’s Kitchen.

Next is a short visit to Port Arthur Lavender, where there's time to explore the lavender fields, view the onsite distillery, or enjoy lavender-themed treats in the café and gift shop. (Note: Lavender is in peak bloom from December to February.)

Upon arrival at the Port Arthur Historic Site, there are approximately four hours to explore this World Heritage-listed open-air museum. Entry includes:

• A complimentary harbour cruise around the Isle of the Dead

• Access to the ‘Port Arthur Experience’ podcast, which provides a compelling introduction to the site

• Expert-led site talks offered throughout the day

Visitors can walk through the main penitentiary, solitary confinement cells, and many other preserved buildings, gaining a deeper understanding of the harsh conditions and isolation endured by early convicts in this "inescapable prison."

The return journey to Hobart includes a stop in the historic town of Richmond. There’s time here to stroll the charming streets, visit the local lolly shop or chocolatier, enjoy a coffee, or walk across Australia’s oldest convict-built sandstone bridge, still in use today and said to be haunted.

The tour concludes with a drop-off at your Hobart city accommodation at approximately 6:00 pm.
