Honey and Hive: Open a Hive, Honey Tasting with Morning Tea

Discover the fascinating world of bees in this hands-on beekeeping experience in Bowral. Guided by a passionate local beekeeper, you’ll learn about the lifecycle of bees, their vital role in our food system, and what makes different honeys unique.

The experience begins on a beautiful terrace with a guided honey tasting of up to six different honeys, exploring how flavour, colour, texture, viscosity, and aroma are shaped by the floral sources surrounding the honey farm.

Over morning tea featuring plunger tea, coffee, and freshly baked sourdough, you’ll hear about the remarkable biology of bees before suiting up in a professional full-length beekeeping suit and gloves. You’ll then head to the hives to open a working hive, hold a frame of bees, inspect hive health, and learn how to identify the queen and honey stores. If you’re lucky, you may even spot “Liz,” the queen of the colony.

Bowral Honey Farm : 1325 Old South Road, Bowral NSW

Located on the grounds of Retford Park, a National Trust property.

Getting There & Parking

  • Enter via the main gates at 1325 Old South Road, Bowral
  • Drive straight ahead along the long driveway; it will eventually turn right
  • Look for hives and signage
  • Parking is available in the paddock opposite the hives or in the nearby gravel parking area
  • Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for parking and check-in

⚠️ This experience takes place at Retford Park, not the former Bowral township site.
It is approximately a 5-minute drive from Bowral town centre.

Things to Note

  • Price list in AUD
  • This is a hands-on beekeeping experience involving close interaction with live bees. Participants must wear the provided professional beekeeping suit and gloves at all times and follow the instructions of the beekeeper and staff.
  • Enclosed footwear is strongly recommended. Please avoid wearing open shoes or sandals.
  • Guests with a known allergy to bee stings or a history of severe allergic reactions should carefully assess their suitability for this experience and advise at the time of booking.
  • The experience is subject to weather conditions and hive activity. If conditions are not suitable for opening a hive, the operator reserves the right to modify the experience.
  • This tour takes place on the grounds of Retford Park, a National Trust property, and not at the former Bowral township site.
  • Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to allow time for parking and check-in.
  • Guests are responsible for their personal belongings. The operator accepts no liability for loss or damage.
  • This is an outdoor experience; sun protection such as hats and sunscreen is recommended.

Cancellation Policy

10% surcharge if change or cancel after order is placed. No refund if cancel within 3days.
Noticed: If you would like to cancel, please kindly email us to cancel the tour at least 2 business days prior to this cancellation period. Once cancellation is confirmed, you will receive your refund within 7-28 business days.
Cancellation notification needs to be formally replied receipt by us during our office hours as acknowledgement.

NOTE: FIT TRAVEL would adopt suppliers' cancellation policy. Cancellation fees, if any by the suppliers, will be charged according to the supppliers' cancellation policy ( FIT TRAVEL does not charge additional cancellation fees ).
