Located in Oxenford on the Gold Coast, it is approximately 18km north of Surfers Paradise (a 20-minute drive) and 55km south of Brisbane (about a 45-minute drive). The park is owned and operated by Village Roadshow Theme Parks under license from Warner Bros. Discovery. While the adjacent film studios were established in the late 1980s, the theme park itself was a joint venture between Village Roadshow, Warner Bros., and Pivot Leisure.

Officially opened on June 3, 1991, the park cost approximately $120–140 million to build and covers a vast 168-hectare site. Alongside Sea World and Dreamworld, it remains one of the "Big Three" theme parks that make the Gold Coast Australia’s entertainment capital. Movie World is world-renowned for its immersive design, adrenaline-pumping attractions, and high-quality live performances. Younger guests and fans of classic animation can explore the Kids' WB! Fun Zone (formerly Looney Tunes Village), a magical world where they can meet and interact with their favorite cartoon characters.
