Embark on an 8.5-hour (7:30 AM - 5:00 PM) adventure with Ocean Spirit Cruise to discover the beauty of the Great Barrier Reef at Michaelmas Cay. Snorkel in the crystal-clear waters amongst tropical fish and vibrant coral, and witness the reef ecosystem from a glass-bottom boat, learning from an expert guide. Enjoy lunch, refreshments, and the unique tropical atmosphere of this National Park and protected bird sanctuary. Participate in fish feeding and bird watching, or simply relax on the beach.

About Michaelmas Cay

Michaelmas Cay is a low-lying, vegetated sand cay encircled by a spectacular fringing reef. It's a National Park and a vital sanctuary for migratory seabirds with cultural significance to local Indigenous peoples.

Itinerary

Ocean Spirit operates daily, some times and scheduled activities may vary subject to conditions on the day.

7.30am Check-in at Ocean Spirit’s counter inside the Reef Fleet Terminal
8:00 am Boarding commences. Complimentary tea and coffee served until departure.
8:30am Depart Cairns for Michaelmas Cay and the Great Barrier Reef
9:00am Safety and snorkeling briefing, reef introduction.
9:30am Informative Marine Biologist slide show presentation.
10.00am Dive brief for introductory divers.
10:30am Arrive at Michaelmas Cay. Reef Activities commence:
- Fish feeding presentation
- Snorkelling (included)
- Semi-submarine/glass bottom boat Reef Discovery tour (included)
- Scuba diving for introductory divers. (Dive session times are 11:00am, 12:15pm & 1:30pm)
12:00-1.30pm Buffet lunch served onboard.
2:30pm Afternoon tea is served onboard
Depart Michaelmas Cay for Cairns.
Glass of complimentary sparkling wine, cheese and crackers.
5:00pm Arrive Cairns.

Snorkelling

Snorkelling is fun way to experience the many treasures of the Great Barrier Reef. With easy access from the beach at Michaelmas Cay, people of all ages and experience, can enjoy the reef, quietly drifting over the myriad of corals and colourful fish.

Semi Submersible

See the Great Barrier Reef without getting wet in an air-conditioned semi-sub! Seated just one metre below the waterline, you’ll be able to see a treasure trove of marine life going about their daily lives. Perfect for non-swimmers or anyone wanting to see the reef in air-conditioned comfort.

Optional Activities

Guided Snorkelling (Optional activity)

Take a guided snorkel tour of the reef surrounding Michaelmas Cay with one of our experienced Marine Biologists. As a small group you will be introduced to an abundance of marine life, from parrotfish to giant clams, and learn about the Great Barrier Reef eco system. Fun for individuals or the family.

Introductory Scuba Dive (Optional activity)

Take the plunge with an introductory scuba dive and see the reef up close and personal. Glide past stunning coral formations, swim along with schools of fish and discover a whole new world. No experience is necessary to take a fully supervised, guided introductory dive.

Things to Note

  • All per person prices quoted are in Australian dollars and valid from 1st April 2023 to 31st March 2024.
  • 4 -14 years are classed as children, and under 4 free, i.e. 3 or below.
  • Family fare – maximum of 2 adults and 2 children of the same family. Normal fare applies for additional children. Not applicable with any other discount.
  • All schedules, activities and prices may be varied without notice. Listed fares in Australian dollars include Goods and Services Tax.

What to Bring :

  • Camera (Drones not permitted)
  • Professional photo service on board (additional cost)

Diving & Snorkelling

  • Certain medical conditions and medications may preclude some people from diving. For advice contact our reservations office or view medical information.
  • Minimum age for diving is 12 years. We recommend a wait of 12 hours but preferably 24 hours, if doing multiple dives, before ascending to an altitude of 300 metres or greater. Snorkelling can be a strenuous activity. Please use caution and inform our crew of any medical conditions.

Cancellation Policy

Free Cancellation if cancel outside 24hours. No refund if cancel within 24hours.
Noticed: If you would like to cancel, please kindly email us to cancel the tour at least 2 business days prior to this cancellation period. Once cancellation is confirmed, you will receive your refund within 7-28 business days.
Cancellation notification needs to be formally replied receipt by us during our office hours as acknowledgement.

NOTE: FIT TRAVEL would adopt suppliers' cancellation policy. Cancellation fees, if any by the suppliers, will be charged according to the supppliers' cancellation policy ( FIT TRAVEL does not charge additional cancellation fees ).
With this specific product's cancellation policy, the suppliers reserve the right of final interpretation.
If your order only pays the deposit of a product: a, if the product has available seats on the departure date and price and contents are the same as the order you placed, the booking would be confirmed by us without additional notification to you, and the deposit is not refundable. b, if the product has no available seats or price or contents are not the same, we might provide alternative options. If you do not agree with the options, the deposit is refundable.
