This 60‑minute glass‑bottom boat cruise explores the rugged and spectacular coastlines of Penguin, Seal and Bird Islands, taking advantage of the best wildlife‑viewing opportunities of the day.

Wild dolphins, rare Australian sea lions, pelican rookeries and birds of prey are regularly sighted. The knowledgeable and friendly crew provide engaging commentary and ensure guests are right amongst the action.

The cruise concludes on Penguin Island, allowing approximately 30 minutes for a guided nature walk. This walk offers exclusive insight into the local penguins, the island’s natural history and its striking landscapes. Guests with additional time may enjoy swimming, snorkelling, exploring the island’s nature trails, or simply relaxing in the beautiful nature reserve before returning on the ferry at their own leisure.

Highlights

  • See rare Australian sea lions resting on the beach at Seal Island
  • Spot wild dolphins at play (sightings are regular but not guaranteed, as the cruise operates within Shoalwater Bay)
  • Explore rugged islands and observe nesting pelicans, cormorants and other seabirds that inhabit the marine park
  • Drift over seagrass meadows and limestone reefs, spotting fish and other marine life through the glass‑bottom boat
  • View the fossilised remnants of ancient tuart forests

Things to Note

  • Any prices listed are in Australian dollars (AUD).
  • The crew will endeavour to provide visitors with the best possible wildlife viewing opportunities during the cruise. Guests are asked to respect the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park, as the area is a natural habitat. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed, as animals are not fed or trained.
  • Penguin Island may be closed on extremely hot summer days due to the Little Penguins’ moulting period, in accordance with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.
  • The Dolphin, Penguin and Sea Lion Cruise is subject to prior ferry availability, as all cruises depart from Penguin Island.
  • It is important to dress appropriately, as conditions on the water can be cold, even during summer. A warm, weatherproof jacket is essential, and gloves, scarves and beanies are recommended on colder days.
  • Children of all ages are welcome aboard. Parents are the best judge of how their children will cope with approximately one hour on the water; however, most children find the experience enjoyable and love seeing the local wildlife, including sea lions and pelican rookeries along the coastline.
