Experience the best of South Australia with this comprehensive 4-day, 3-night package, combining the vibrant city of Adelaide, the acclaimed McLaren Vale wine region, and the natural wonders of Kangaroo Island. You'll enjoy comfortable accommodation at the Stamford Plaza Adelaide and tours operated by Adelaide Sightseeing and SeaLink Kangaroo Island.
Upon arrival in Adelaide, make your own way from Adelaide Airport to your centrally located hotel, the Stamford Plaza Adelaide. Options include Uber, taxi, or the Adelaide Metro Airport Bus (please check the airport website for current details). Once settled, spend the day discovering the sights of the city at your leisure. Explore the elegant North Terrace Precinct, indulge in some retail therapy at Rundle Mall, and immerse yourself in the bustling atmosphere of the very popular Adelaide Central Markets.
Today, journey southwards from Adelaide, passing through the southern suburbs and along the metropolitan coastline, enjoying coastal views as you go. Your first stop is the McLaren Vale Information Centre for morning tea. Here, you'll have an opportunity to sample wines from some of the region's smaller wineries that do not have cellar doors (wine tasting is additional cost).
Next, you'll visit one of the highlights of your day: the d'Arenberg Cube. Nestled amongst the vineyards, this five-level "Rubik's Cube" has been carefully designed to entice and excite the senses. From the Alternate Realities Museum to the many art installations on display, there is so much to see and experience. Enjoy a formal wine tasting on Level 4, where you can soak in panoramic views of the vineyards and surrounding countryside.
Following a delicious two-course lunch, you'll travel to Beresford Wines. Here, you can choose from one of three tastings in their brand-new Tasting Pavilion: the Premium Wine Tasting (a selection of Estate and Limited Release wines), the Vale Brewing Tasting (up to five craft beers from the sessionable Vale range), or the 23rd Street Distillery tasting (choice of five craft spirits or three craft gins).
The final cellar door visit is Wirra Wirra Vineyards, nestled amongst the gum trees in their historic ironstone cellars. Enjoy a short tour of the cellars and a structured tasting of their quality wines. Keep an eye out for the unique 'catapult' and the ¾ tonne Angelus Bell in the picturesque grounds.
Finish the day with some spare time in the main street of McLaren Vale. You may like to pop into the Fruchocs Shop for some sweet treats, wander up the road to Blessed Cheese, or explore the Fleurieu Arthouse housed on the historic Hardys Tintara site. Then, settle back on the coach for your return trip to Adelaide.
An early morning pick-up from your hotel for a scenic coach journey to Cape Jervis, taking in the picturesque Fleurieu Peninsula with its vineyards, coastal views, and rolling hills. On arrival, board the SeaLink ferry for the 45-minute crossing to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. Here you will board your luxury SeaLink coach, and your local driver/guide will take you on a tour of South Australia’s premier nature-based tourism destination.
Visit Seal Bay Conservation Park, where you will be taken on a beach walk with an experienced guide to be amongst a colony of rare Australian sea lions. Get up close and see these wild creatures frolic and laze about – a truly amazing and unforgettable experience. Then, enjoy a delicious two-course lunch.
Spend the afternoon in the Flinders Chase National Park, which, despite being devastated by fires in January 2020, now showcases rapid native bush regeneration with many photo opportunities. As you travel through the park, keep an eye out for echidnas, wallabies, reptiles, and koalas. See the rugged coastline from walks around Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch. Remarkable Rocks provide great photographic opportunities, and the Admirals Arch boardwalk takes you down a rugged cliff face to reveal the spectacular rock archway, a natural nursery, and safe haven for playful Long-nosed Fur Seals.
Your final stop will be the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park to feed some kangaroos and get up close to the Kangaroo Island koalas while listening to the Keeper talk about the cuddly mammals. There is also a possibility that you will see more kangaroos and wallabies on your return to Penneshaw for your journey back to Adelaide.
