Tour Information

Full-day tour from 07:45 am - 5:30 pm

Experience a remarkable day in the Red Centre by embarking on an unforgettable journey through its most iconic mountain range. Discover stunning scenic, cultural, and historical landmarks as the tour departs from Alice Springs and travels west. The tour includes visits to John Flynn’s Grave, Simpsons Gap and the Ochre Pits. Enjoy a sit-down lunch at Ormiston Gorge, followed by time to explore the area. On the return trip east, we will stop at Ellery Creek Big Hole, where guests can take a refreshing swim during the warmer months. This is a true outback adventure! Don’t forget your camera! Every moment of this memorable one-day tour is worth capturing.

Itinerary:

At 7:45 am, your guide will collect you from outside your Alice Springs accommodation. You’ll see spectacular outback scenery and have ample photo opportunities as we travel along the magnificent West MacDonnell Ranges, stopping at historic sites.

MORNING

Enjoy beautiful walks at Simpsons Gap, Standley Chasm (for morning tea), and the Ochre Pits.

LUNCHTIME / EARLY AFTERNOON

Our next stop is at Ormiston Gorge for lunch. On the way back to Alice Springs, you will stop to spend time at Ellery Creek Big Hole. This waterhole is one of Central Australia’s most pristine, so don’t forget your swimmers in the warmer months!

LATE AFTERNOON / EVENING

The panoramic landscapes of the West MacDonnell Ranges are extraordinary for their immensity and the spectacular array of sunburnt oranges, maroons and purples on display. In the winter months, these mighty ranges light up in brilliant oranges and reds at sunset on the return journey to Alice Springs.

You can expect to be back at your accommodation at approximately 5:30 pm.

  • *We would like to inform you that a NT Parks Day Pass is required for entry into Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park for day trips. This pass is not included in the tour price, so we recommend purchasing it in advance to ensure a seamless entry on the day of your tour. The Angkerle Atwatye – Standley Chasm entry fee is included.

Transportation

Free coach pick-up from hotels in Alice Springs.

Things to Note

  • All per-person prices quoted are in Australian dollars.
  • All activities are considered very safe for all age groups. They do not require a high level of fitness or agility, and there are only short walks.
  • No operation on public holidays.
  • There is a maximum of 36 people on each tour.

What to bring: 

  • Proof of booking (can include the e-version delivered to your email)
  • Water bottle (at least 1 litre)
  • Strong, non-slip walking shoes
  • Hat (wide-brimmed is best)

  • Casual and comfortable clothing (cool, light clothing is best in summer and warm clothing in winter)
  • Travel pillow (we will be driving after nightfall)
  • Cash for purchasing dot painting directly from artists at sunset

Cancellation Policy

10% surcharge if change or cancel after order is placed. No refund if cancel within 3days.
Noticed: If you would like to cancel, please kindly email us to cancel the tour at least 2 business days prior to this cancellation period. Once cancellation is confirmed, you will receive your refund within 7-28 business days.
Cancellation notification needs to be formally replied receipt by us during our office hours as acknowledgement.

NOTE: FIT TRAVEL would adopt suppliers' cancellation policy. Cancellation fees, if any by the suppliers, will be charged according to the supppliers' cancellation policy ( FIT TRAVEL does not charge additional cancellation fees ).
