Experience the magic of Tamborine Mountain through the eyes of those who call it home. This immersive tour takes you beyond the typical tourist spots, offering a deep dive into the region’s rich volcanic history, artisan culture, and ancient rainforests. From tasting the "green behind the gold" to hearing the legendary calls of the Albert’s Lyrebird, this 8-hour adventure is the perfect blend of relaxation and discovery.

Tour Highlights & What to Expect

  • Authentic Local Insights: Travel with a local guide who shares stories of the mountain’s history, its people, and the hidden gems you won’t find on a map.
  • Artisan Tasting Experience: Visit passionate local producers to sample the region’s finest coffees, artisan spirits from boutique distilleries, and locally grown produce during a mountain-top lunch.
  • Guided Rainforest Walk: Wander through Joalah (Curtis Falls), a subtropical paradise filled with towering flooded gums, giant strangler figs, and ancient ferns.
  • Boutique Shopping: Stroll through Tamborine Village to discover handmade arts, crafts, and organic skincare from local makers.
  • Spectacular Vantage Points: Take in sweeping views of the Gold Coast skyline to the east and the rugged peaks of the Scenic Rim to the west.

The Destination: Mt Tamborine & The National Park

Mt Tamborine sits on the northern edge of a massive volcanic caldera formed 22 million years ago by the Mount Warning eruption. This geological history has left behind fertile basalt soils, dramatic rocky cliffs, and the stunning waterfalls that define the plateau today. In 1908, the Witches Falls section of Tamborine became Queensland’s first national park. Today, the park spans over 11 square kilometres and is a biodiversity hotspot. Remarkably, it is home to over 85% of the animal species and 65% of the plant species found in the entire Gold Coast region. Keep an eye out for Pademelons, Bush Turkeys, and the Land Mullet—one of the world's largest skinks.

Enchanted Walk to Curtis Falls (Joalah)

The walk to Curtis Falls is a highlight of the tour, taking you into an area traditionally known as "Joalah"—an Aboriginal word meaning "haunt of the lyrebird."

  • The Canopy: Look up to see Crows Nest and Staghorn ferns clinging to massive trees, while Piccabeen palm groves line the creek.
  • The Falls: The trail leads to a breathtaking basalt gorge where Curtis Falls tumbles into a shallow rock pool.
  • Wildlife Spotting: The crystal-clear waters of the pool are a habitat for turtles, fish, and eels. If you’re lucky, you may even spot a platypus in the early morning light. During the winter months, listen for the spectacular mimicking calls of the male Albert’s Lyrebird echoing through the valley.
