Day 2: Hobart to Bruny Island to Hobart

This morning marks the first full day of the Tasmanian journey with a visit to one of the state’s most iconic day experiences — the magnificent Bruny Island.

The day begins with a 7:30 am hotel pickup, departing the early morning bustle of Hobart and travelling south to the quiet coastal village of Kettering. From here, the group boards the ferry for a short crossing over the tranquil D’Entrecasteaux Channel to reach the shores of Bruny Island.

Upon arrival, the group continues to Adventure Bay to check in at 9:30 am for the award-winning Bruny Island Wilderness Cruise. Travellers explore the island’s dramatic southern coastline, travelling alongside some of Australia’s highest sea cliffs, below towering crags and close enough to hear the incredible sounds of the ‘Breathing Rock’. The cruise ventures into deep sea caves, passes through the narrow gap beside ‘The Monument’, and showcases the raw power where the Tasman Sea meets the Southern Ocean. There is also the opportunity to spot abundant wildlife, including seals, dolphins, migrating whales and seabirds. Highly trained interpretive guides ensure the experience is engaging, entertaining and informative.

Following the cruise, lunch is served at the Bruny Island Cruises Restaurant. Afterwards, the group keeps an eye out for the elusive albino wallaby before heading to The Neck lookout — one of the most famous landmarks on Bruny Island. Here, the north and south of the island meet at a narrow isthmus. The ascent involves a number of steps but rewards with a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of southern Tasmania.

After descending from the lookout, the group relaxes while sampling some of Bruny Island’s renowned local produce, including honey, cheese, beverages and oysters, before returning via ferry for the drive back to Hobart.

Accommodation: Hotel Grand Chancellor or an equivalent hotel of a similar standard
Included Meals: Breakfast
Included Activities: Bruny Island Wilderness Cruise

Day 3: Hobart → Richmond → Mt Wellington → MONA Museum

Today features exploration of Hobart and its surrounding region, uncovering the beauty of Australia’s second-oldest and southernmost capital city.

The day begins with an 8:00 am hotel pickup before enjoying a guided commentary loop through Hobart’s CBD and iconic landmarks. The journey then continues to the summit of kunanyi/Mt Wellington, where pristine mountain air and sweeping views of Hobart and its landscape await.

After descending, the tour arrives at Hobart’s waterfront and the world-renowned Salamanca Market for morning tea. With more than 300 stalls showcasing fresh produce, artisan crafts, and bespoke art, the market presents Tasmania’s largest range of locally made goods.

Following approximately 90 minutes at the market, the group travels to historic Richmond — a township rich in convict heritage and characterised by sandstone colonial buildings. Richmond is home to Australia’s oldest bridge and Catholic church, and guests may purchase lunch at one of the many charming cafés.

A visit follows to the Wicked Cheese Company for a tasting of award-winning Tasmanian cheeses before continuing to one of the most distinctive and provocative attractions in the world — the MONA Museum and Moorilla Winery. This acclaimed museum surprises, challenges, and inspires. Guests then board the MONA ROMA ferry for a scenic return to Hobart’s waterfront, with free time to explore and make their own way back to the hotel.

Dinner tonight is at guests’ own leisure, with an array of excellent restaurants available in the CBD and along the waterfront, including The Drunken Admiral, Mures, Cargo, Roaring Grill, and many more.

Accommodation: Hotel Grand Chancellor or a similar standard
Included Meals: Breakfast
Included Activities: MONA Museum and ferry return to Hobart

Day 4: Hobart → Port Arthur

The morning begins with a 9:00 am pickup before a relaxing 90-minute drive east through farmland, vineyards, and small country towns toward the Tasman Peninsula and the historic site of Port Arthur. Along the way, the first stop is Pirate’s Bay Lookout — a scenic vantage point offering sweeping coastal views.

A short drive on leads to the Tasmanian Chocolate Foundry for tastings of handcrafted chocolates, before continuing to Port Arthur Lavender. This family-owned farm overlooking Long Bay offers time to stroll the fragrant lavender fields, browse the gift shop, sample lavender products, or enjoy morning tea.

Next, the tour arrives at the Port Arthur Historic Site for three hours of exploration, including a harbour cruise. Guests may purchase lunch from the on-site cafés and eateries. This UNESCO World Heritage-listed former penal settlement offers a powerful insight into early convict history.

After exploring the site, guests may choose between:

  • Continuing the visit at Port Arthur, or

  • Joining the excursion to Remarkable Cave.

Those joining the cave excursion travel to Maingon Bay Lookout to experience rugged sea cliffs, powerful Southern Ocean swells, and views toward Penguin Rocks. A descent of 115 steps leads to Remarkable Cave, where rising tides can send surging water through the rock formation — sometimes resulting in sea spray. Guests who remain at the Port Arthur site are collected after the cave visit, receiving four hours total at the historic site.

The day concludes with a short drive to peaceful waterfront accommodation. Dinner is served at the lodges’ restaurant, On the Bay.

Accommodation: Stewarts Bay Lodge or a similar standard
Included Meals: Breakfast and dinner
Included Activities: Entry to Port Arthur Historic Site and harbour cruise

Day 5: Port Arthur → Freycinet → Bicheno

An early 7:30 am departure sees the tour leaving Port Arthur and travelling north toward Freycinet National Park, home to the world-famous Wineglass Bay.

Morning tea is enjoyed en route at Kate’s Berry Farm, before travelling onward through Swansea and past the Apslawn Forest Reserve as the Hazards mountain range approaches on the horizon.

Lunch is served at Devil’s Corner Vineyard, including a tasting of award-winning wines. The vineyard’s sun-drenched deck offers spectacular views over The Hazards and Great Oyster Bay — the perfect setting to relax before the afternoon ahead.

The group then enters Freycinet National Park, where two experience options are offered:

Option 1: Wineglass Bay Lookout Walk

Those wishing to see the iconic Wineglass Bay join a guided walk to the lookout.

  • Grade 3

  • 1.5 hours return

  • 2.6 km
The track includes some steep sections and steps, with resting points and impressive views along the way.

Option 2: Gentle Scenic Activities

Guests preferring a shorter and easier outing may join the guide for:

  • Cape Tourville Lighthouse (Grade 1 loop)

  • Potential spotting of migrating whales from the clifftops

  • Seaside time at Honeymoon Bay or nearby beaches

After an afternoon exploring the park, the group travels to Bicheno and checks into the accommodation for the evening. Dinner is served at the hotel pub.

Accommodation: Beachfront Bicheno or a similar standard
Included Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 6: Freycinet → St Helens

The day begins at 9:30 am with a visit to East Coast Natureworld, a wildlife sanctuary home to many native species including Tasmanian devils, wombats, wallabies, Forester kangaroos, spotted quolls and native birds. Guests may hand-feed friendly residents and witness a Tassie devil feeding. Morning tea is available from the on-site café.

Returning briefly to Bicheno, the tour stops at the town’s blowhole before continuing to the Lobster Shack — a boutique eatery overlooking the picturesque Gulch. Lunch is served here, showcasing fresh Tasmanian lobster and seafood.

Travelling north, the road passes a scenic coastline where farmland meets the wild Tasman Sea, before arriving at Ironhouse Brewery. Guests enjoy a guided tour and tasting of the brewery and distillery’s craft beers, spirits, whiskeys and wines in a dramatic windswept coastal setting.

The journey then continues to St Helens, a fishing town and the largest settlement on the northeast coast. Accommodation tonight is at the newly constructed Tasman Holiday Park. The evening is free for independent dining and exploration.

Day 7: St Helens → Launceston

The day begins at 9:00 am with a short coastal drive to Binalong Bay and the Bay of Fires — named for the bright orange lichen-covered boulders that contrast with white sand and turquoise waves. Lonely Planet once listed this as one of the world’s most beautiful beaches, and guests may take a refreshing dip if conditions allow.

From the coast, the tour heads inland to the rural community of Pyengana for a cheese tasting at the Pyengana Dairy Farmgate café.

Next, the landscape transitions to the mossy rainforest of St Columba Falls State Reserve — home to one of Tasmania’s highest waterfalls. A short Grade 1 walk (20 minutes return) on a compact path leads through tree ferns, sassafras, myrtle and beech forest to the base of the 90-metre waterfall. While the once-common Tasmanian tiger is no longer seen, a keen eye may spot a platypus in the nearby creeks.

Lunch is then enjoyed at the Pub in the Paddock — a heritage-listed country pub located quite literally in the middle of a paddock, complete with its iconic resident pig, Priscilla, known for her fondness for “special ales”.

The next stop is Bridestowe Lavender Estate, a sprawling lavender farm where neat rows of purple blooms contrast dramatically with deep red soil and vast open sky. Guests may explore the property and sample lavender treats such as lavender ice cream.

By late afternoon, the journey continues to Launceston — the heart of the Tamar Valley wine region — with dinner served in the hotel restaurant.

  • Ride the single-span chairlift across the gorge

  • Enjoy a gentle stroll among native wildlife and gardens

  • Purchase morning tea from the café

The tour then continues across the striking white Batman Bridge to Beauty Point for a visit to either Seahorse World or Platypus House, offering close encounters with these extraordinary species. Meanwhile, the coach travels through the gold mining town of Beaconsfield, site of the notable 2006 mine rescue.

Lunch is enjoyed overlooking the Tamar Valley at the Tamar Ridge Wine Centre, featuring a tasting of acclaimed cool-climate wines.

The afternoon concludes with a return to the Launceston hotel, where guests have free time to freshen up and explore the city, parks or cafés at their leisure. Dinner tonight is independent, with guests able to choose their own dining venue.
