Beginner Abseiling Adventure – Narrow Neck Plateau (Blue Mountains)

If you’re unsure about your abilities or would like to take your time learning how to abseil, this tour is perfect for you.

With our experienced guides by your side, you’ll be carefully coached through every step — from taking those first few steps over the edge to confidently bouncing down the cliffs in no time.

Located in the spectacular Narrow Neck Plateau of the Blue Mountains, this site offers breathtaking views and a range of cliffs ideal for your first abseiling experience.

According to the Dreamtime legend of the Gundungurra people, the dramatic Blue Mountains landscape was formed during a great battle between two mythical creatures, Gurangatch and Mirragan. Their chase carved out the deep valleys and pushed up the rocky peaks, leaving behind the incredible formations we see today — including Narrow Neck, a ribbon-like ridge separating the mighty Jamison Valley and Megalong Valley.

On the Megalong Valley side of Narrow Neck, you’ll find a stunning abseiling site with panoramic views and sandstone cliffs that invite adventure. With Eagle Rock Adventures, you’ll gear up in a harness and helmet, standing high above the Megalong Valley before descending the cliffs under expert supervision.

The word abseil comes from German, literally meaning “to rope down.”
You’ll start with gentle 5-metre cliffs to learn the basics under your guide’s instruction, then move on to 15-metre and 30-metre abseils if you’re feeling confident.

The beauty of single-pitch abseiling is that it’s relaxed and flexible — you can repeat smaller descents to build confidence or challenge yourself with higher cliffs once you’re ready. The short walk back to the top after each abseil makes this experience ideal for families and beginners.
