THE #1 ATTRACTION IN THE DAINTREE

The Daintree Discovery Centre offers visitors an opportunity to learn about and explore one of the few remaining unspoiled pockets of lowland rainforest in Far North Queensland, while at the same time protecting the fragile environment of the Daintree Rainforest. The Daintree Discovery Centre is a multi-faceted venue offering access to all levels of the rainforest from floor to the tops of canopy.

WONDER & APPRECIATE

  1. Climb High: Climb 112 steps to the very top of the rainforest canopy. The tower has five different viewing platforms allowing access to the various levels of the rainforest.
  2. Look Up: View the spectacular mid-canopy walkway offering access to the mid-level rainforest along with stunning views over McLean’s Creek.
  3. Spend Time: Walk with the dinosaurs in the Jurassic Forest – just one of five exciting self-guided audio tours available at the Discovery Centre.

Interpretive Centre:

Offering an interactive experience through touchscreens and interpretive displays, discover the fascinating secrets of the Daintree Rainforest. The Interpretive Centre is a large, open plan complex incorporating a number of themed interactive displays. The displays begin with an historical perspective starting with the big bang theory of evolution. This is followed by an animated film that explores the formation of Gondwana Land and the ‘age of the dinosaurs’. The flora and fauna of the rainforest is presented in considerable detail including information about the Cassowary, Crocodiles and many other creatures unique to the Daintree. Highlights of the Interpretive Centre include the Sustainability Corner, Mini Beasts, Theatre, Rainforest Aquarium and Children’s Corner.

Just watch for the Discovery Centre signs once you have passed the Alexander Lookout.

Visting a National Park

The Daintree Rainforest is one of the most special on the planet so it is important that it is protected. Only walk on designated tracks or boardwalks, drive slowly and watch for wildlife, take home rubbish including food scraps, watch out for stinging plants and check yourself for ticks and leeches if you have been walking through the forest.

What to Bring

It is highly recommended visitors wear closed in, secure footwear when visiting the Daintree as well as bring a good supply of water, sunscreen, a change of clothes, any vital medications, camera and phone. There is not a lot of phone reception, so where possible it is recommended to travel with someone.

Special Assistance

The Discovery Centre offers full accessibility to its Daintree Café, Aerial Walkway and Interpretive Centre. Due to natural variations in the terrain, the lower level boards and walkways may not be accessible to all visitors using mobility devices.

How much time should I allocate for my Discovery Centre Experience?

There is a lot to see and do at the Centre and you are welcome to stay as long as you like. Information is purposely layered, allowing for those with a keen interest to learn more. However, people who have limited time often prefer to just focus on particular points of interest.

Some visitors spend all day exploring all the options; interpretive displays, interactive work stations, theatre, self-guided audio tours etc. but everything is designed to be independent and you can do as much or as little as you like.

###Your entry fee is valid for 7 days so you can come back as often as you like – just get your interpretive guide book stamped at the Centre when you leave on your first visit.
