The Great Southern - Rail Adventure

Departing Brisbane, you’ll travel south into the rolling hills of New South Wales before indulging in an incredible beachside dining experience in Coffs Harbour. Meander through the historic vineyards of the Hunter Valley, explore the beautiful Port Stephens area by land or by sea or take a walking tour around the town and coastline of Newcastle. The journey continues into regional Victoria, with time to explore the area or venture into Melbourne for a day spent exploring the city and visiting icons such as the National Gallery of Victoria. Your journey then continues into South Australia before you reach your final destination of Adelaide.

Day 1: Brisbane And Coffs Harbour

Depart Brisbane and settle into your private cabin, enjoying a delicious lunch on board as the train glides through Queensland’s lush hinterland. As you cross into northern New South Wales, arrive in the coastal gem of Coffs Harbour for a memorable evening.

Coffs Harbour Beachside Dinner (Included in Fare)
In the early evening, disembark at Coffs Harbour Station and transfer by coach to a stunning beachside setting. As the sun sets, indulge in a feast of fresh local seafood and produce, paired with fine wines, with the gentle sound of waves nearby. After a few leisurely hours, reboard the train for a restful night’s journey south.

  • Duration: Approx. 3.5 hours
  • Fitness Level: Low
  • Note: Wear flat, comfortable shoes for outdoor surfaces (sand, grass, uneven walkways). In poor weather, dinner moves indoors.

Day 2: Hunter Valley, Newcastle Or Port Stephens

Begin with a hearty breakfast on board, then choose one of four included Off Train Experiences—or upgrade to a premium helicopter tour—to explore the diverse delights of New South Wales.

  1. Hunter Valley Wine Region (Included in Fare)

Then, soar over the Hunter Valley on a scenic helicopter flight, taking in vineyards, the Broken Back Range, and Pokolbin State Forest. Your pilot narrates the region’s history as you capture stunning photos. Return to Broadmeadow Station to reboard.
