Free for all train ticket holders, passengers can also explore the Menzies Creek Museum – home to more than 80 railway-related exhibits, including rare operational steam and diesel locomotives, an operational boiler house that services steam engines, and the Little Toot Café for all your morning tea needs.

  • Ticket Categories : Children's Tickets: Applicable for passengers aged 4–15 years. Adult Tickets: Required for passengers aged 16 years and above.
  • We will try to book the train session any time of the day if available , once it confirm it can't be refunded or changed
  • Infants and Toddlers
    • When booking, please indicate the number of children and their ages in the Requests & Remarks section.
      Passports must be presented upon arrival for age verification. Failure to provide accurate details may result in non-admission.
    • Toddlers (1–3 Years Old): A toddler fare applies, ensuring individual seating and enhancing the travel experience for families.
    • Infants Under 1 Year Old: Travel is free, but infants must be held by an accompanying adult.
  • Puffing Billy Railway Guidelines
    • Upon arrival at Puffing Billy Railway’s Belgrave Station, you will be asked to confirm your child’s age at the booking office.
    • Children Under 4 Years Old:
      • Not permitted to sit on the carriage sills.
      • Will be given a red wristband to indicate ride restrictions.
    • Children Aged 4–13 Years:
      • If sitting on the carriage sill, their age must be recorded. This ensures they receive the correct wristband for safety purposes.
      • Children in this age group will be given a green wristband to indicate they are correctly supervised.
    • Supervision Requirement:
      • Adult supervision is mandatory for children aged 4–13 years sitting on carriage sills.
      • A maximum of two children per adult is allowed within arm’s reach.

Q1. Why isn't my booking confirmed immediately? How long does it take?

A: Puffing Billy Railway is a historic public heritage railway and a non-profit organisation in Melbourne. Its ticketing process for travel agents differs from most commercial attractions.
Travel agent allocations are generally released and ticketed around 21 days before departure. After you place your order, we must wait for confirmation from the Puffing Billy Ticket Office.
Rest assured, this is the standard booking process. We will notify you as soon as we receive confirmation.

Q2. Why can't tickets be issued or changed instantly?

A: Puffing Billy Railway still uses a traditional manual ticketing system.
Every travel agent booking must be submitted to the ticket office via email, where it is manually reviewed and ticketed by staff. Unlike many attractions with instant online confirmation, bookings cannot be processed immediately.

Q3. I've placed my booking, but it hasn't been confirmed yet. What happens now?

A: If you've completed your booking, we'll do everything we can to assist you.

We'll notify you immediately once we receive confirmation from Puffing Billy Railway. Most bookings follow this standard process.

Q4. How can I get the best seats?

A: Seating is free seating (first come, first served).

After receiving your booking confirmation or e-ticket, you'll still need to exchange it for a physical boarding ticket at the station on the day of travel.
We recommend:

  • Arriving around 1 hour before departure
  • The earlier you collect your ticket, the better your chances of choosing your preferred carriage and seats.
  • Guests arriving later may only have limited seats remaining.
  • If you're travelling with family or friends, arriving early gives you the best chance of sitting together.

Q5. Do I need to purchase a return ticket? How about Oneway ?

A: The scenery is almost identical in both directions, so many visitors choose to travel one-way by train and return by Uber.
This is especially popular when return tickets are sold out.

🚂 One-way train: Approximately 1 hour (Belgrave → Lakeside)
🚗 Uber: Approximately 20 minutes (Book via the Uber app. Around AUD $40 for up to 4 passengers, subject to demand and pricing.)

Q6. My preferred date is sold out. Are there any other options?

A: Yes!
If individual tickets are sold out, we recommend joining one of our half-day or full-day Puffing Billy tours.
Many guided tours use Group Booking allocations, meaning seats may still be available even when individual tickets on the official website are sold out.

Cancellation Policy

25% surcharge if change or cancel after order is placed. No refund if cancel within 7days.
Noticed: If you would like to cancel, please kindly email us to cancel the tour at least 2 business days prior to this cancellation period. Once cancellation is confirmed, you will receive your refund within 7-28 business days.
Cancellation notification needs to be formally replied receipt by us during our office hours as acknowledgement.

NOTE: FIT TRAVEL would adopt suppliers' cancellation policy. Cancellation fees, if any by the suppliers, will be charged according to the supppliers' cancellation policy ( FIT TRAVEL does not charge additional cancellation fees ).
