Enjoy a scenic hike below towering cliffs, followed by panoramic views at the summit.

At the designated time on your booking, please meet at the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre (20 Davey Street). From there, we'll embark on a guided scenic drive through historic Hobart. We'll pass through South Hobart, where you'll see Mount Wellington towering above us and the Cascade Brewery building, which dates back to 1824 (along with one of its fascinating stories).

Next, we'll continue our journey through tall eucalyptus forests and the town of Ferntree, known for its lush, well-watered, cool temperate gardens that are occasionally covered in snow. As we pass The Springs, you'll get a quick preview of Bruny Island—a tiny taste of what's to come.

We’ll then drive past the Chalet, a rustic dolerite bluestone shelter hut, where you'll behold the colorful and resilient snow gums, flowering banksia trees, a waterfall, and stunning views of Hobart. Your guide, David, has studied botany, geology, and water resources at a local university in Hobart, making him well-equipped to explain this unique mountain environment. Having explored this mountain since childhood, he has plenty of stories to share.

As we ascend above the tree line, the wheels will do the climbing while you enjoy the views on our way to the summit at 1,270 meters (4,180 feet), also known as the The Pinnacle of Mount Wellington. Up here, the scenery becomes even more spectacular, with views extending to the mountains of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. You'll have 30 minutes of free time to take in the breathtaking vistas from the Hobart and South West Wilderness viewing platforms, explore the unique Tasmanian alpine vegetation, and marvel at the dramatic rock pillar formations. At the summit, you’ll be filled with awe as you’re immersed in an ocean of natural beauty, with nothing but the vast wilderness before you.
