Begin at the vibrant Salamanca Market, where you can enjoy a delicious breakfast and browse local handicrafts. Leaving Hobart, your wilderness journey starts at Mount Field National Park, walking beneath some of the world’s tallest trees and visiting the stunning Russell Falls. Continue west to Lake St Clair, Australia’s deepest freshwater lake, before travelling through the rugged landscapes of Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. As you head further west, pass sweeping buttongrass plains and take in breathtaking views around Queenstown, once a historic mining hub and now a lively West Coast destination.
Travel to the harbourside village of Strahan and embark on a scenic cruise along the majestic Gordon River, immersing yourself in Tasmania’s wilderness. Cruise through Macquarie Harbour and Hells Gates, the narrow entrance to the Southern Ocean. Step ashore at historic Sarah Island, a former penal settlement, before heading upriver into the rainforest. Stroll along the boardwalk beneath ancient Huon pines, some more than a thousand years old, and enjoy lunch on board showcasing Tasmanian produce.
