The 16 Days East Coast Tour is the ultimate trip for those who want to see the best of Australia’s east coast. From Sydney’s harbour to the Daintree Rainforest, this trip combines natural wonders, cultural experiences and coastal gems into one trip.
New South Wales, Queensland and everything in between, this small group tour is for those who want comfort, authenticity and memorable encounters with nature and local culture. Whether it’s snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, wine tasting in the Hunter Valley or walking through rainforest canopies, this trip has the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure.

Day 1: Sydney

We start in Australia’s Harbour City, the glittering jewel in the east coast’s crown. Check into your room, freshen up, then meet your tour leader and new travel mates for a welcome meeting at 6pm. Then we are off for a great welcome dinner, and the chance to get to know your fellow travellers.

Day 2: Hunter Valley and Newcastle

We leave behind Sydney’s skyscrapers and sidewalks for a wildlife park boasting an all-star cast of koalas, kangaroos, and more. We’re in the heart of the Hunter Valley, so there’s nothing better than to take a wine, cheese & chocolate tasting. We’ll also visit the sunny port city of Newcastle, rounding off an eclectic day.

After breakfast, we’re off to Port Macquarie, where we’ll have a chance to meet the volunteers at a Port Macquarie Koala Hospital. If you’re unable to tear yourself away from the cuddly critters, don’t worry – you’re not the first. Expect to come away with loads more knowledge about these often misunderstood creatures, & how by joining our tour, you are supporting this amazing centre’s conservation efforts. Relax for the evening with a stroll along the foreshore & a free night for dinner. Enjoy the sounds of the local bird population and keep your eyes peeled for the local wild dolphins who frequent the area!

Day 4: Niigi Niigi (Sealy Lookout) & Byron Bay

Start with a First Nations experience with the Gumbaynggirr people, learning about their history, culture and connection to Country. Then onto Byron Bay, famous for its surf and laid-back vibe. Visit Cape Byron Lighthouse, the most easterly point of mainland Australia, where you may see whales in season or dolphins in the waves below.

Day 6: Noosa & Rainbow Beach

We’re crossing into Queensland – the Sunshine State. Your first stop is laid-back Noosa, and Noosa National Park where you will have the chance to spot koalas and other Aussie critters. We continue further up the Sunshine Coast to our base for the next 2 nights, it’s time to relax and soak up the atmosphere of the vibrant Rainbow Beach.

Day 7: K’Gari (Fraser Island)

Ready, steady, go, for a once-in-a-lifetime 4WD K’Gari adventure today. Once known as Fraser Island, the destination has been returned to its original name K’gari. K’gari is the local Butchulla nation’s name for the island, meaning ‘paradise’ – you’ll find out why soon enough.
You’ll never want to leave, as we explore the largest sand island in the world, kick back at some of Queensland’s most renowned lookouts, take a walk on the wild side in a lush rainforest, dive into Boorangoora (Lake McKenzie) a crystal-clear lake, see the famous S.S Maheno shipwreck and course go dingo-spotting along the golden 75 Mile Beach. The fun needn’t stop there; after the tour feel free to enjoy Carlo Sand Blow and Rainbow Beach, or put your feet up in your accommodation.

It’s Bris-vegas baby! We’re off to Queensland’s capital, Brisbane, soon to be home of the summer Olympics. Laidback, sunny, optimistic, buzzing – in many ways it’s the quintessential Aussie city. See for yourself how wonderful Brisbane is with a walk (or ferry ride) along the aptly named Brisbane river and its surrounds. Your tour ends this afternoon, but why not join for a last dinner to say farewell?

Day 9: Brisbane to Airlie Beach

Now it’s time to trade in the road for the skies as we fly to the Whitsunday Coast. On arrival in Airlie Beach, check into your accommodation and then enjoy a free afternoon to do as you please. Walk along the foreshore, shop and café hop, or just chill by the lagoon. As the sun sets, you might like to try one of the many restaurants or bars along the main street.

Included Activities: Flight from Brisbane to Proserpine (Whitsundays); free time in Airlie Beach.

Day 10: Airlie Beach & Whitsunday Islands

Today we sail for a full day speed-boat cruise to the Whitsundays. Relax on deck as we cruise through turquoise waters and stop at Whitehaven Beach and its white sands aboard the award-winning Red Cat Adventures Thundercat vessel. Walk to Hill Inlet lookout for views and snorkel the coral reefs teeming with fish – maybe even turtles if you’re lucky. Lunch on board and then back to Airlie Beach in the arvo. Your evening is free.

Day 11: Mission Beach

After breakfast, we head north through coastal landscapes and sugarcane fields to Mission Beach. A laid-back seaside town with palm-lined shores. Spend the arvo unwinding – by the pool, on the beach or with a book in hand. Keep an eye out for cassowaries, the region’s rare and beautiful flightless birds.

Today we head inland to the Atherton Tablelands. Visit a rainforest waterfall and take a swim, then Lake Eacham – a volcanic crater lake. See the Curtain Fig Tree, one of the largest in the region and then onto the vibrant tropical city of Cairns.

Day 13: Snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef

A real Aussie highlight – a full day to the Great Barrier Reef. Snorkel the corals, see the reef through the glass-bottom boat and learn about the ecosystem from the experts onboard a 20 metre luxury catamaran. For the adventurous, optional scuba diving is available. Back in Cairns, you can join your group for dinner and share stories from the day.

Day 14: Kuranda and Port Douglas

Today, we go deeper into the World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest. Cross the Daintree River by ferry and take a guided walk to spot cassowaries, birds and other wildlife in their natural habitat. Then to Cape Tribulation, where rainforest meets reef. In the afternoon, enjoy a quiet eco-friendly cruise along the Daintree River, keeping an eye out for crocodiles and other creatures. Return to Cairns via a scenic coastal drive. The tour concludes around 6 pm.

Weather

  • The East Coast of Australia has a varied climate depending on the region and season.
    Summer temperatures can exceed 30 °C, while winters are mild.

  • This tour includes light walking; travellers must have basic mobility.
