Kuranda Koala Gardens

Spend a day at Kuranda's most laid-back wildlife park at Kuranda Koala Gardens. Experience a boutique wildlife attraction with an open plan putting you up close with many of the park's inhabitants! Get the chance to meet and feed kangaroos, pademelons, and wallabies, or admire the freshwater crocodiles lounging at the park's lagoon.

Kuranda Koala Gardens is a boutique wildlife attraction, located in the world famous Kuranda rainforest village. Situated in the Kuranda Heritage Markets, the wildlife park is home to an amazing array of Australian animals, including wallabies, wombats, quokkas, gliders and freshwater crocodiles. What we lack in size, we make up for in cuteness.

In fact, we are one of the few places where you can hold a Koala for a souvenir photo (extra cost, conditions apply and limited availability). As an alternative, singles and small groups can buy a Koala Patting Photo. For something different, you can have your photo taken with one of our large, friendly pythons (extra cost). Our souvenir wildlife photos are very popular.

The Aussie Bush Collection features a fascinating combination of marsupials and reptiles, all living in harmony together. See the Long-nosed Potoroos along with Bearded Dragons and Blue Tongue Lizards.

Kuranda Koala Gardens has the only nocturnal exhibit in our Tableland region, giving visitors the opportunity to see up close some night-loving marsupials like the Greater Bilby, Northern Bettong and the rare Mahogany Glider.

Birdworld Kuranda

Marvel at the brilliant aviary's multitude of birds at Kuranda's vibrant bird park, home to Amazonian macaws, the endangered cassowary, rainbow lorikeets, vibrantly colored parrots, galahs, cockatoos, and many more. Expect to have close encounters with these feathered friends and make sure to capture the moment they land on your shoulder!

At Birdworld Kuranda you can immerse yourself in one of the most unique wildlife attractions of Tropical North Queensland. Birdworld Kuranda replicates the natural habitats of almost 60 native and exotic species that roam the unique rainforest habitat we’ve created. There’s handfeeding and photo opportunities so make sure you bring your camera.

Flying around you are species from the vanishing rainforests of the world, including some of Australia’s most precious and beautiful birds. There are brilliant Amazonian macaws, the endangered and stately cassowary, cheeky rainbow lorikeets, galahs, cockatoos and many more.

Naturally landscaped with waterfalls, ponds, exotic and native plants, Birdworld Kuranda is a place where you can join the birds in their beautiful world. Surround yourself in their rainforest habitat and be amazed at the more than 350 birds of all shapes, sizes and colours on display, including the Finch Aviary.

Australian Butterfly Sanctuary

• Open hours: 9.30am – 3.30pm daily (Last Entry 2.30pm)

Visit the wonderful Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, nearby Cairns, and discover an aviary world of majesty and vibrant color. Take a guided aviary tour detailing a butterfly's life cycle and behavior, or stop by the park's laboratory to witness the breeding process, from caterpillar to butterfly. Stop by interactive educational exhibits and see the world the way a butterfly does — in UV light! Stroll around the park and be immersed in its serene environment.

Looking to get up close and personal with Kuranda wildlife? Visit us at the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, located in the heart of Kuranda village.

Our sanctuary is home to over 1200 butterflies, all of which are bred in our very own breeding laboratory. Flying through our tropical gardens you will see numerous local rainforest butterfly varieties including the majestic green and yellow Cairns Birdwing, Red Lacewings and Orchard butterflies.

We offer a range of experiences for the whole family – from educational immersive exhibits to guided tours through the aviary and breeding laboratory.

We can also host events & functions, including weddings, corporate events and parties.
