You can travel from Melbourne to Ballarat by V/Line train, then transfer to a local bus.

Take a V/Line train from Southern Cross Station (Melbourne) to Ballarat Station.
The V/Line journey takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.
After arriving at Ballarat Station, take Route 21 bus towards Buninyong.
Get off at Sovereign Hill/Main Rd or Bradshaw St/Magpie St and walk approximately 2 minutes to the entrance.
The bus journey takes around 10–15 minutes, with services generally operating once per hour during the day.

Alternative (Fastest Option)

Take a taxi or Uber directly from Ballarat Station after Vline.
Travel time is approximately 3–5 minutes to Sovereign Hill.
