Explore the great Australian Outback in this incredible 4-day tour between Uluru and Adelaide.
Kick off your adventure by crossing from the Northern Territory into South Australia, headed towards the opal capital of the world. Coober Pedy boasts lunar landscapes at the surface above a vast network of tunnels and mind-bending colours. The iconic rainbow-hued opals found underground share their subterranean existence with houses, hotels and shops. Experience the region's history at the Big Winch 360°, a captivating cinematic journey that immerses you in the sights and sounds of the outback.
To escape the scorching surface temperatures, Cooby Pedy has ingeniously adapted, with many attractions and residences built underground. After your opal fossicking adventures in Coober Pedy, delve deeper into the region at Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park, an Aboriginal-owned reserve. Experience a section of the iconic Dog Fence, a 5,300-kilometre barrier spanning three states. The surreal moonscape of fossilised shells and cracked grey clay surrounding Coober Pedy dwarfs even the most extraordinary human constructions. Still, amidst this otherworldly terrain, the Coober Pedy Opal Fields Golf Club offers a unique experience: a round of golf on a course of dirt and sand fairways. Make sure to keep an eye out - you might even discover an opal.
Nature ups the ante at Lake Hart, an incredible lake with salt crystals making up the base of the lake and floating on the surface. This area, Woomera, was once a testing base for atomic bombs, ballistic missiles and satellite boosters.
At the Wadlata Outback Centre, we'll delve deeper into the unique landscape you've been exploring these past two days. Encounter life-size replicas of giant lizards, journey back in time to the age of dinosaurs, and meet the people who have shaped this region – from the first Indigenous inhabitants to the pioneers who settled here and the vibrant communities that thrive today. Explore interactive exhibits, including the fascinating world of Morse code, and marvel at stunning displays of fossils and opals. After all this exploration, you'll be ready for a well-deserved treat. We'll head to the historic Knappstein Wines in the renowned Clare Valley, where you'll discover the secrets behind their award-winning rieslings (grapes). Your unforgettable Uluru to Adelaide journey concludes this afternoon upon arrival in Adelaide.
