This is one of the best value scenic flights in Australia and a great introduction for children and first-time flyers.

It is also one of the most exciting flights, with spectacular sights the entire way. Departing from Kalbarri Airport, the aircraft flies towards the township and low along the beachfront before continuing at cliff-top height past the coastal cliffs, showcasing their striking red sedimentary rock colours. Flying past the surfing beach, the journey reaches Red Bluff, Rainbow Gorge and a series of interconnected gorges before returning past the cliffs and low over the Kalbarri beach strip back to the airport.

This great value flight offers an outstanding perspective of the coastal cliffs, Castle Rock and the Natural Bridge, allowing their true magnificence and scale to be fully appreciated.

The Tumblagooda Sandstone, which forms much of the Kalbarri region, is visible both from the air and on the ground, with impressive red cliffs rising more than 100 metres and dramatically carved by the sea.

These cliffs are part of what was once, around 400–500 million years ago, a vast tidal sand flat system that irregularly bordered a large river plain stretching approximately 100 kilometres. The tidal range at the time is believed to have been greater than it is today, with successive red and white layers of sand bedding stained by iron oxides formed in an oxygen-rich environment.

The sequences visible along the coastal cliffs sit higher in the stratigraphic sequence (and are therefore younger) than the inland gorges. They also display much larger-scale bedding deposition, reflecting the higher-energy coastal environment compared to the wide, flat braided river plains that formed the thinner beds seen in the river gorges.
