Setting out from Rotorua, your Hobbiton Movie Set Tour starts with a scenic drive across Matamata where your local driver guide will provide informative commentary and share stories about the region and its history. Take a guided tour of Hobbiton Movie Set and learn how this picturesque farmland was transformed into a living, breathing piece of Middle-Earth. Your guide will shoe you Hobbit holes, the Green Dragon Inn, the Party Tree, the Mill and many other structures from the movies. Then enjoy a tasty lunch in the Party Marquee before making your way back to Rotorua

Itinerary

Take a tour from Rotorua to the Hobbiton Movie Set and see the farm that was transformed into a Middle-earth filming location. Your Hobbiton tour starts with a scenic drive across the Kaimai Ranges to the small town of Matamata. During your coach trip your local driver guide will entertain you with stories and information about the region and its history.

Just outside the town of Matamata is your destination: Middle-earth! Sir Peter Jackson and his team knew this private farm would make the perfect spot to build the village of Hobbiton for the award-winning The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movie trilogies. Take a guided tour and see the picturesque village you saw on screen in living colour before you.

All tours of Hobbiton Movie Set now include an interior Hobbit Hole™ experience, designed and crafted by the renowned creative teams behind The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film trilogies. Located on Bagshot Row™, these Hobbit Holes offer an authentic glimpse into the charming dwellings of Hobbits going about their daily lives in the Shire™.

See the Hobbit holes, the Party Tree, the Mill and many other structures from the movies, while learning about how the set was built. You might even hear a few secrets from behind the scenes!

Towards the end of your tour, you’ll stop in at the Green Dragon Inn and enjoy a complimentary beverage from the Southfarthing range, before following your guide to the Party Marquee.

Enjoy a buffet-style lunch inside the Party Marquee, adjacent to The Green Dragon Inn. With themed tables, bursting with hobbit fare, dine family style with your group to conclude your Middle-earth adventure.

After your Hobbiton Movie Set tour concludes, return to Rotorua, arriving approximately at 2.15pm
