Our Half Day tour caters for small guest numbers and includes two snorkelling sites,  informative reef commentary and a light refreshment. Enjoy two deck areas with a little extra time and space.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA'S ONLY SEMI-SUBMERSIBLE BOAT

The Sub Sea Explorer is a custom built semi-submersible vessel that gives passengers a unique view of the underwater architecture and marine life from below the waterline.

It is the only Semi-Submersible catamaran vessel in Western Australia and operates around Tantabiddi sanctuary zone on the beautiful Ningaloo Reef.

The Sub Sea Explorer can comfortably carry 20~30 passengers and 2 crew and has the ability to be chartered for large groups including weddings, corporate functions, birthday parties and special events.

The Ningaloo Reef is iconic and World-Class in terms of corals, fish fauna and marine life. A journey on Sub Sea Explorer is not only educational, but a great way for the family to understand the underwater ecology of the Coral Coast.

The Sub Sea Explorer will take you on an unforgettable journey over Ningaloo Reef without getting your feet wet. Learn about the shipwrecks, maritime history and influence of the Leeuwin Current on the flora and fauna as you take a journey of discovery. See the myriad of fish species and ask our trained staff to help you identify them.

SubSea Explorer allows guests walk on – walk off the boat from the Tantabiddi jetty, you won’t need to get your feet wet! Once we have departed from the jetty and all guests are seated comfortably downstairs, crew members will beginning an informative and engaging reef commentary. It takes approximately 5-10 mins to reach the coral gardens of the Tantabiddi Sanctuary area. A crew member will be with you throughout your tour and welcome any questions you may have regarding the Ningaloo. Enjoy a tour below sea level.

SubSea Explorer allows guests to walk on and walk off from the Tantabiddi jetty. Once we depart from the jetty we begin with a reef commentary and explore the coral gardens on the way to our snorkel site. We provide snorkelling equipment and guests will have the opportunity to snorkel for approximately 45 mins – 1 hour. Our favourite snorkel site is located within the Tantabiddi Sanctuary area. When everyone is back onboard, we use the remaining time to show guests our favourite boomies and time permitting, search for larger marine animals, like turtles and sharks, before returning to the jetty. Welcome to your underwater aquarium.

Snorkel the beautiful coral gardens of the Ningaloo and be immersed within the view from Sub Sea Explorers lower deck.  Boasting 16, large, glass windows positioned vertically below sea level, this iconic Western Australian boat is unsurpassed for your coral viewing experience.

Guests are able to watch through our 16 large underwater viewing windows as we venture out into the world renowned Ningaloo Reef. Our guests have the opportunity to view the Ningaloo below sea level, accompanied by an informative reef commentary from our friendly crew members. You will be viewing an abundance of corals and colourful fish and we may even cruise by some of our larger fishy friends on the reef.

The custom designed glass panels, along the outer hulls of our catamaran, are perfectly angled to immerse yourself within the reef. 

We depart from Tantabiddi Boat Ramp, which is 25-30mins from Exmouth town centre. Guests are required to make their our way to Tantabiddi boat Ramp. 

What to bring? Towel, water bottle, GoPro, hat, swimwear, wetsuit (if needed)

When everyone is back onboard, we use the remaining time to show guests our favourite bommies and time permitting, search for larger marine animals, like turtles and sharks, before returning to the jetty.

(Tantabiddi boat ramp, which is a 25 min drive from Exmouth town centre)

Things to Note

  • Prices are per person and valid for travel 1 April 2023 to 30 Apr 2024 , for other dates please enquire.
  • Please arrive at designated location 15 mins prior to departure, as tour will depart on time
  • We recommend bringing a camera, sunhat, sunscreen, and sunglasses
  • We suggest wearing comfortable clothing with a warm top, as it can get cool while on the water
  • Sub Sea Explorer is a semi-submersible catamaran. This means we have a lower deck located below the water line. Our guests have a unique view of the reef and will feel completely submersed within the marine environment. The 16 windows are located on the sides of the hull and allow passengers to look out at a 360 degrees. On a regular glass bottom boat, the windows are in the floor of the hull, and have a limited range of viewing compared with semi-submersible vessel.
  • How far out do we travel : 800 meters to 1 kilometres from Tantabiddi boat ramp. We explore the Tantabiddi sanctuary area of Ningaloo Reef.
  • What will we see : A wonderful variety of reef fish and hard corals. We often see turtles, sharks, rays and larger fish, for example Queensland groupers when we explore the deeper waters outside of the coral garden area.
  • WILL I SEE A WHALESHARK? No. We explore the inside of the Ningaloo Reef. Whalesharks are on the outside on the Ningaloo fringe Reef. We recommend contacting Ningaloo Discovery or Ocean Eco Adventures for Whaleshark tours.
  • WHAT SHOULD I BRING? Swimwear, water bottle, towel, camera or phone. You are welcome to bring a snack.
