This 90-minute wilderness cruise goes beyond Port Arthur to take in the cliffs, caves, arches and white sand beaches of the Tasman Peninsula to Cape Raoul

With soaring sea cliffs and monumental rock formations, the Tasman National Park is a coastal wonderland.  Here the waters of the Tasman Sea collide with the towering ancient cliffs of the Tasman Peninsula, creating dramatic caves and arches, ending spectacularly at Cape Raoul, its dolerite columns like steps down into the ocean waters.

The Tasman National Park lies close to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Port Arthur Historic Site, where the formidable coastal terrain added to the feared reputation of the brutal penal colony. Today this historic location stands as one of Australia’s premier attractions, offering a gateway to the region’s natural beauty.

Our local guides are excited to welcome you on our Cape Raoul Cruises, allowing you to explore this phenomenal coastline for yourself, directly from the Port Arthur Historic Site.

Cruise past significant historical sites like Point Puer and Isle of the Dead before marvelling at the gorgeous white sands of Safety Cove and the tall dunes of Crescent Bay, tucked into the rocky and rugged coast. Enjoy panoramic views across Cape Pillar and iconic Tasman Island.

Mt Brown provides a stunning backdrop as we cruise past West Arthur Head to Cape Raoul. Keep an eye out for the cheeky Australian fur seals that lounge at the base of the columnar dolerite cliffs of Cape Raoul. Look up to witness the sheer magnitude of these 170-million-year-old cliffs, rising from the ocean’s edge over 250 metres to touch the sky.

Keep your eyes peeled skywards for wildlife including majestic albatrosses, white-bellied sea eagles and other seabirds that soar above the coastline. Watch for dolphins that love to play in the bow wave of our boat and whales that cruise the southeastern coastline during the southern migration.

It departs at 10:45 am and returns at 12:15 pm (approximately).

It departs at 1:15 pm and returns at 2:45 pm (approximately).

Tour Options

An entry ticket to the Port Arthur Historic Site is required to join the cruise. There are three options for this tour, listed below:

Cruise + Port Arthur Historic Site Entry + Hobart Bus Service
This option includes return guided bus transfers from Hobart, a wilderness cruise and around 6.5 hours at the Port Arthur Historic Site.

Departs 7:45 am daily from Pennicott Wilderness Journeys Booking Centre at Dock Head Building, Franklin Wharf, Hobart.  Departs Port Arthur at 4:45 pm and returns to Hobart around 6 pm.

Transportation

Getting There

  • Cape Raoul Cruises departs from the Port Arthur Historic Site. Allow 90 minutes to drive from Hobart to Port Arthur, following the Arthur Highway.
    Guests must wait at the Port Arthur Historic Site Jetty 15 minutes before departure.
  • The Full Day Tour with Transfer : Coach departs from the Hobart CBD - Pennicott Wilderness Journeys Booking Centre.  This is situated on Hobart's waterfront on Franklin Wharf, next to the Constitution Dock Lifting Bridge.  Please check-in by 7:15am for a 7:30am departure.
  • If you have your own car, we don't have any parking available

Preparing for Your Cruise:
Dress warmly for the cruise – warm jackets, scarves, beanies, and gloves are recommended. While our yellow boat is enclosed to protect you from the elements, layering up will enhance your comfort. Don’t forget your camera to capture the awe-inspiring moments along the way!

Tour Information:

  • Tours operate daily, except Christmas Day, and bookings are essential as places are subject to availability.
  • Children of all ages are welcome. Parents are the best judges of how their children will handle the 3-hour cruise, but most children enjoy the experience, particularly spotting wildlife and exploring the stunning Bruny coastline.
  • The cruise is generally suitable for pregnant women. Our custom-built boats are designed for smooth navigation, but comfort may vary depending on weather conditions. We recommend checking the forecast a day or two before your cruise. We’re happy to reschedule or cancel bookings if necessary.

Wildlife Spotting:
This is a nature sightseeing cruise with a 50% chance of spotting seals and seabirds. Sightings of whales, dolphins, and albatrosses depend on the weather and nature’s whims, so their appearance cannot be guaranteed.

Booking Requirements:

  • Each participant must have a Port Arthur Historic Site Entry Ticket to join Cape Raoul Cruises.
  • A package is available that includes the entry fee and the cruise. If you purchase your Port Arthur Historic Site ticket separately, please bring proof of purchase when you check-in. Without proof, you’ll need to pay the entry fee on the day.

Additional Information:

  • Cruises are not cancelled due to low numbers. Even if you’re the only guest, we’ll still show you the wonders of the Tasman Peninsula.
  • We operate in remote locations subject to weather conditions. If we cancel due to weather, you’ll receive a full refund.
  • We reserve the right to cancel or vary trips without liability. Bookings are subject to our Terms and Conditions.

Cancellation Policy

Free Cancellation if cancel outside 2days. No refund if cancel within 2days.
Noticed: If you would like to cancel, please kindly email us to cancel the tour at least 2 business days prior to this cancellation period. Once cancellation is confirmed, you will receive your refund within 7-28 business days.
Cancellation notification needs to be formally replied receipt by us during our office hours as acknowledgement.

NOTE: FIT TRAVEL would adopt suppliers' cancellation policy. Cancellation fees, if any by the suppliers, will be charged according to the supppliers' cancellation policy ( FIT TRAVEL does not charge additional cancellation fees ).
With this specific product's cancellation policy, the suppliers reserve the right of final interpretation.
If your order only pays the deposit of a product: a, if the product has available seats on the departure date and price and contents are the same as the order you placed, the booking would be confirmed by us without additional notification to you, and the deposit is not refundable. b, if the product has no available seats or price or contents are not the same, we might provide alternative options. If you do not agree with the options, the deposit is refundable.
