A fabled journey. Follow the path of bush pioneers, gold rush prospectors, and legendary adventurers as you make an epic transcontinental crossing aboard the Indian Pacific.

By embarking on this transcontinental journey, you’ll be following in the footsteps of those who have dared to venture beyond the city limits – the legendary adventurers, goldrush prospectors and bush pioneers who forged their lives in Australia’s spectacular yet unforgiving interior.

Times and experiences may vary.
Final arrival and departure times on all our journeys may vary. We will advise of any changes prior to departure.
All Off Train Experiences are subject to weather and changes through the year and may vary by season.

Day1 : Perth And Kalgoorlie

Your journey from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific Ocean begins as you pull away from the platform in Perth mid-morning. Settle into your comfortable cabin and get to know the creature comforts of life onboard. Enjoy a modern Australian lunch as you glide through the picturesque rolling hills of the Avon Valley. After a relaxing afternoon onboard, enjoy a three-course dinner prior to your late evening arrival in the wild west township of Kalgoorlie.

① Paddy Hannan’s Ounce Of Luck: Tales From The Golden Mile (Included In Fare)

As the sunrise unfolds across Australia’s largest outback town, Kalgoorlie, the Indian Pacific pulls in, and guests are invited to join the first Off Train Experiences of the journey, delving into this mining town’s past and present, with a visit to the region’s gold-rush era, now modern-day, Super Pit mine. The gold rush, set off by Paddy Hannan’s discovery in 1893 was one of the biggest in Australian history.

Reboard the train mid-morning for brunch.

  • Recommended Fitness Level: Low – coach tour with short walks and seated experience.

Day2 : Nullarbor Plain

Awake to the spectacular expanse of the Nullarbor Plain to watch the sunrise. Be captivated by the big blue skies and ancient stillness of the desert landscape, broken only by a mob of friendly kangaroos. Waiting ahead is the charm of the once-thriving Nullarbor railway community – now ghost town – of Cook. Sit back and relax as the train continues its trek across the longest single stretch of railway in the world. Another mouth-watering dinner is followed by relaxed conversation in the lounge before a restful night’s sleep.

Cook (Included In Fare)

Hidden in the vast interior of South Australia lies a ghost town that once bustled with life. Today, the town of Cook is home to lonely buildings and a population you can count on one hand – but in its heyday the location was an important part of the development of Australia’s interior. Established in 1917, Cook was originally built as a support town for the railway, with more than 50 people helping to maintain the tracks. Alight and wander the remote, time-worn town for a slightly eerie, unique glimpse of pioneering Australia.

The Regional Art Gallery (Included In Fare * Start from 2025 New Option)

Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery is the oldest regional art gallery in New South Wales holding an important cultural position and role in the broader western New South Wales region.

The Emporium was associated with two well-known Broken Hill families, the Sullys (1885-1925) and the Sweetapples (1924-1985), and had its own livery stable and blacksmiths in the yard at the rear of the buildings. In 1998 the Broken Hill City Council purchased the building to provide a permanent home for Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery and the city’s art collection.

The Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery provides an annual program of locally curated exhibitions along with touring exhibitions from major cultural institutions. A selection of works from the collection is on permanent display in the upstairs gallery whilst the touring exhibitions fill the lower floor.

On display is an extensive collection of Australian colonial works including James Coutts Michie and James Ashton along with several important Victorian painters such as Arthur Hacker RA. The gallery also has a nationally recognised collection of early 20th century Australian paintings including works by Margaret Preston and Arthur Streeton through to contemporary works by Rick Amor, Charles Blackman, Arthur Boyd, Lloyd Rees, Barbara Hanrahan, Mandy Martin, Clifton Pugh, Tim Storrier, Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, Emily Kane Kngwarreye, David Malangi and many other fine Australian artists including Pro Hart.

This is a town tour with a difference, as Shelita educates and entertains on the mining history, iconic buildings, and art installations that represent the fascinating interfusion that makes up contemporary Broken Hill.
